There is one specific friend I have to credit for single-handedly setting me down a positive road. A little over two years ago, he suggested I join him and a friend for a trip overseas. It was my first post-covid jaunt, and it changed my life in more ways than one.
I have known this friend for decades, but we hadn’t travelled much together. I wasn’t concerned, though, as we got along well and had a lot of interests in common. Technically, he was a friend of one of my siblings, so he was part of the family.
I wasn’t meant to be free. I was trying to get my son to agree to a trip to celebrate his graduation. His work prevented that, so I was free to go. Before I texted my friend, I checked flights and hotels. All systems go. It was clearly meant to happen.
He will often tell me it was a gift that I texted. I tell him the same. Best of all, he has become my new travel buddy. We have gone on several more trips in the interim and have more planned for the future.
He’s fun, and easy. Overall, great company. And a laugh. I had no idea that sending that text would have the effect it did. And I almost didn’t. It would have been far easier to refrain. Something made me do it and I have zero regrets.
My life will forever be better because of him. It has been an auspicious start….
